When considering a mover, here are some questions you might like to ask;
Are they insured with the WSIB?
More than 68% of all moving companies operating in Ontario are not registered with WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board). What does that mean? It means if someone comes to your home and performs a job, and then accidentally gets hurt, guess who pays? You do! And there is no way around it. By law, every company coming to your home to provide a service MUST be registered with WSIB. You get what you pay for. Do they offer disassembly and re-assembly of your furniture. Is it included, or extra?
We will disassemble and reassemble your furniture and it is all included free in the hourly rate. Many budget movers will send unqualified personal who quite frankly, do not know what there doing. Taking the door off a house in order to get furniture in or out can be a long drawn out affair with these guys.
Are blankets, dollies, tape and shrink-wrap all included in their price?
We carry a full compliment of moving equipment and tools and consider it just a part of the job at no extra cost.
How experienced are you?
There are three kinds of moving companies. The first one is the discount movers (or low budget movers, usually $30 to $55 per hour) which you can find on most free newspapers, bus shelters and so on. The problem with the first kind is that these companies are not very reliable or experienced and don’t offer any kind of insurance.
The second kind of mover will have small to medium sized ads in the yellow pages (they usually charge between $85 to $120 per hour). The second ones are pretty good, and what can you expect, you pay about $100 + per hour, so they better be good.
The third one is the big professional companies that have full-page ads, usually for many years in a row.The last ones are typically used for people that have a big budget and don’t care about the extra costs for the move. These kinds of companies charge anywhere from $150 all the way to $400 per hour, and of course, they use their good name to justify it, why should’t they? They have many commercial accounts and are used to not being questioned on costs.
But the Gentle Giant / Economical Moving is a moving business where the prices are just a bit higher than the low budget movers and the service is like those of the big companies.
Moving Services
Packing for local moves:
If you would like to use our in house packing service, we will wrap your possessions in packing paper, paper pads, or bubble wrap before carefully placing each item in the appropriately sized box. We then mark each box with the critical identifying information for optimum efficiency in unpacking.
We Can Also Offer These Custom Packaging Techniques for international forwarding:
Crating
Items that are very heavy, very fragile or very valuable are best shipped in a custom built wooden crate. We provide full-service crating for electronic equipment, machinery, grandfather clocks, fine art, motorcycles, chandeliers, trade show displays and other goods. We make crates that are reusable as well as special purpose crates with custom internal cushioning and anti-shock skids.
Foam-in-Place Packaging
We use a Foam-in-Place technology that ensures your goods arrive undamaged and are easy to unpack. Foam-in-Place is a liquid polyurethane material that expands into dense, solid foam around an object. It creates a custom-shaped mold that is strong, lightweight and reusable. Foam-in-Place is a safe way to protect fragile but heavy goods such as computers, servers, monitors and metal sculptures.
Pad Wrap
For large or heavy items, or for many items headed to the same destination, pad wrap can be less costly than packing and shipping. Whether for business or household goods, we can handle special items with care.
Local Moves: (our minimum charges are lower than most)
Local moves are based on an hourly rate depending on the time of the month plus a travel time charge.
Travel time is the time it takes to arrive at your residence and the time it takes to return once finished . We have a set one-hour travel time charge for Toronto.
All costs will be laid out in advance of the move and the driver will endorse a contract with all charges before the work begins. You’ll find our rates are very competitive with other movers offering professional quality work.
Disassembly of furniture, shrink wrap of drawers and cupboards, quilted padding and floor runners are all included in the hourly rate.
Two complimentary wardrobe boxes are supplied for the duration of the move. The less your able to prepare in advance, the more were willing to take on.
Ontario Wide:
At the Gentle Giant we offer an expedited pick up and Delivery of your home. When we load your items onto our truck, we go directly to your new location without combining your possessions with another customer or making multiple stops. We load once and unload once. Less handling means less chance of loss or damage and a greater sense of relief on your part to know your things are safely stowed and on their way.
G.P.S. tracking by the company and cellular contact with the driver by you will ensure that your items are accounted for at all stages of the move. This service guarantees that your move will not be inconvenienced by a vague delivery time. We can arrange either an hourly rate plus travel time or a flat rate fee for this type of service, whichever you feel more comfortable with.

Storage:
Our clients frequently require short-term or long-term storage for their furniture. That’s why we often place possessions into self-storage facilities located through out the Greater Toronto Area. We find this is the prefered method of storage as you can come and go at your convenience to retrieve various possessions any time you like. Moving company storage sites are not as flexible with visitation privileges

World Wide Shipping:
Shipping internationally is a specialty in itself., we have the experience to see your personal or business shipments arrive at their destination safely. We specialize in small moves that go LCL (less than container load). We’re your single source for pickup, packing, international shipping and local delivery. Need to ship multiple items to multiple locations? No problem, just call with a list of what it is you need to ship, along with the dimensions and weight (each piece or collectively) and we will give you a free over the phone or online estimate.
Disposal:
Unlike a dedicated rubbish removal company, we can deliver your unwanted items to a relative, a charity, put it out to the curb or take it to a disposal site (tippage fees extra) , anywhere you like for our standard moving rate.
